New Technologies Coming from Lubrizol’s Estane® TPU Film, Sheet and Fabric Coating Team

CLEVELAND, OH, September 7, 2007 – Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Inc., a subsidiary of The Lubrizol Corporation (NYSE: LZ), introduces new capabilities from its Estane® Engineered Polymers’ film, sheet and fabric coating team.

Some of the major new technologies being developed are for adhesive grades, breathable grades and higher heat melting point materials suitable for lamination of higher heat polymers. Along with the new grades, Estane® Thermoplastic Polyurethanes (TPU) offers some unique capabilities for developing and evaluating new technologies:

  • The capacity to manufacture new polymers ranging from several pounds to several thousand pounds
  • Twin-screw extrusion capacity to create new compounds or alloys
  • Co-extrusion capability 1” to 2 ½” extruders to evaluate material in various forms, such as blown film, cast/flat die, or sheet
  • Ability to calender
Some of the applications for Estane TPU are apparel, inks, conveyor belts, rafts and lifejackets, paint protection, foul weather gear, tents, and computer privacy screens.

Team leader Ralf Hüther says, “One of the team’s primary goals is to continue our technical leadership through innovation that provides added value to our customers. We are excited about the new Estane TPU resins we are developing and hope to be ready to announce them before year end.”
