Estane® TPU Products Earn NSF Certification for CIPP Potable Water Applications
Certification provides cost-effective alternative for utility pipe repairs |
CLEVELAND, OH – June 09, 2008 – Lubrizol Advanced Materials, Inc., a subsidiary of The Lubrizol Corporation (NYSE: LZ), announces it has earned NSF certification for 11 Estane® Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) products. The certified products, which range from 82A to 92A hardness, can now be used safely in numerous applications, including cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) for sewer lines, potable water and laterals. CIPP is the commonly used term for a utility pipe repair method that does not require a broken or damaged section to be dug out. Estane TPUs are ideal for CIPP applications and have been used for over 40 years because of their unmatched combination of flexibility, heat -, chemical -, and abrasion-resistance for lining the resin-filled felt tube. The plastic coated carrier tube, usually an absorbent felt material saturated with a polymer resin, is also repairable on site with solvent, heat or tape. “The CIPP process was first used to repair of sewer liners, but it has expanded to other applications as well,” says Ralf Hüther, market manager for film, sheet, and fabric coating, Estane® Engineered Polymers. “There is a significant push to use the benefits of this technology in potable water applications.” Hüther continues, “To qualify for this type of application, the structure and components must have NSF certification to assure no harmful contaminants are introduced into the drinking water. The end-use lining material requires NSF 61 certification for pipe with a cold water exposure ratio of 500 sq. in. per liter. With our new NSF certification, our Estane TPU products now meet this requirement, opening the door for us to effectively compete in this market.” # # # Estane Engineered Polymers offers a broad product portfolio for liners used in various sub-segments of CIPP such as sewer, potable water or laterals.
