We offer a new generation of Estane® TPU zero halogen fire retardant compounds, which combine the zero halogen objective with good mechanical properties and good processing.

For some specific applications in building and construction environments and for mass transit construction, flame retardancy and low-smoke fire materials are necessary. Noveon is offering a selection of flame retardant-halogenated Estane TPUs for such applications.

In the last decade, environmental groups have lobbied increasingly to bring the emission of carcinogenic dioxines and chlorines down, as well as to decrease the presence of certain stabilizers, plasticizers and flame-retardants. This has had its effects on the use of PVC in the wire & cable industry.

Halogen is also targeted, which made the European Union focus on non-halogenated flame retardant compounds in its legislation and specifications. The European cable specifications are less stringent on standards for ignitability and flame propagation to attain the objective of “Zero Halogen/ Low Smoke.”
